The key objective of the QualityCoast programme
is to have in place, at the end of three years, a fully
implementable policy tool, applicable for all 22 coastal
states of the EU, which will ensure that the integrated
management of specific coastal issues will be sustainable.
This entails the acceptance, within the programme, of a
set of targets which are readily measurable and which cover
both the threats of an unsustainable development and the
opportunities provided by a sustainable future which faces
all coastal authorities and communities throughout Europe.
The QualityCoast programme will provide
a new way of thinking about sustainable management through
a unique scheme which incorporates objective quality information
and targets related to Nature and biodiversity, Carrying
capacity, Water & environmental quality and Socio-economic
aspects. This will be done with one eye on the anticipated
impacts of climate change on coastal zones.
