The Coastal Practice Network – CoPraNet –
aimed to help the establishment of a practitioners network
of coastal stakeholders to exchange information and best
practice on coastal management.
CoPraNEt is an INTERREG IIIC network project, which has
been developed for three years ending December 2006. The
European Commission (EC) has made one million euros available
for the exchange of best practices in coastal management.
This work is being led by EUCC - The Coastal Union in partnership
with 20 coastal councils and institutes from 11 countries.
The main purpose of the establishment of the network is
to promote integrated approaches to coastal management and
planning (ICZM) with special emphasis on sustainable coastal
tourism and beach management.
After a series of international conferences and workshops
which have bridge the gap between planners, managers and
the research community throughout Europe, two main outcomes
have been created: the development of a transparent international
quality programme for sustainable coastal tourism destinations
– QualityCoast - and of
a multilingual guide on coastal erosion and beach management.
This network has been the origin of the QualityCoast
programme.
